Optimal medical treatment (OMT) makes all the difference if you have heart artery disease. In this research involving patients with known heart artery disease, 628 patients received OMT and 628 received usual care—the care that most patients receive. Usual care is focused on rescue later in the disease process. In usual care, the focus is on finding blocked arteries and opening them.
If you have heart artery disease, your body has changed in a way to make your arteries thicker, more inflamed, and stiffer. The same processes are making your heart bigger. They are replacing the pumping cells in your heart with scar tissue so that eventually your heart will not pump as well and it will have a tendency to go out of rhythm. Eating real food, exercise, lisinopril, losartan, statins, metformin, eplerenone, spironolactone, and empagliflozin all interfere with these changes to dramatically protect you. They make it much less likely you will have a heart attack, that your heart will stop, or that you will develop heart failure. They will keep you out of the hosptal and the emergency room.
Look at the graph. Almost ten times as many patietns receiving usual care died of heart disease (CV mortality) compared with patients receiving OMT over four and a half years. More than ten times as many people died of all causes compared with patients who received OMT. Very simple, easy, inexpensive, proven measures can protect you and help you be healthier longer. They will help you continue to do the things that you want to do. Ask your health care provider to help you achieve OMT.
