USPSTF Finds No Value in Vitamin, Mineral, Multivitamin Supplements to Prevent Cardiovascular Disease or Cancer
In a review of the current evidence, the US Preventive Services Task Force recommendation from this week found no value in vitamin, mineral, and multivitamin supplements to prevent cardiovascular disease or cancer. They did say excess oxidants and inflammation contribute to the development of these conditions.
This site is all about helping you understand how lisinopril or losartan, statins, metformin, spironolactone or eplerenone, and empagliflozin are antioxidants that do work to slow the development of cardiovascular disease and cancer and prolong healthy life. Optimal medical therapy (OMT) with diet and exercise has been proven to prolong life by eight years and delay heart attack and stroke by 8 years. It has also been proven to reduce all-cause mortality dramatically.
“Beyond wasted money, the focus on supplements might be viewed as a potentially harmful distraction. Rather than focusing money, time, and attention on supplements, it would be better to emphasize lower-risk, higher-benefit activities. Individual, public health, public policy, and civic efforts should focus on supporting people in regular preventive care, following a healthful diet, getting exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding smoking.”
Focus your efforts on measures that have been proven to be effective. Encourage your medical community to develop the capacity to consistently deliver OMT.
