This photo is from 1992. I weighed 307 pounds and I have to say I hated it. You can see the difference compared with the photo on yesterday’s post. I was already focused on cardiology and when I talked with patients about lifestyle change, they just smiled. I knew I needed to lose weight. I desperately wanted to lose weight. Very few of us want to be fat or sick. I followed the prevailing wisdom. The low-fat diet had very little impact. Calories in, calories out was impossible to sustain. I was eating low fat, which meant I ate lots of carbs. That is my real weakness. I would cut my caloric intake in half and I could do it for 4-6 weeks and lose 20 pounds, but every day was like holding my head under water, and when I came up for air, it was spectacular. I quickly regained the weight and then some.

Congratulations on success in your epic journey to reach optimal health, Bill!
I've just reread several of the free emails and then subscribed. I've also ordered Kessler's book, The End of Overeating. Fingers crossed.
