Asymmetric Dimethyl Arginine (ADMA) is elevated in all vascular risk factors including obesity, and it directly decreases nitric oxide production. (see left side of diagram) A single milk shake increases ADMA levels and interferes with artery expansion in response to exercise. ADMA is formed when arginine in proteins around genes is changed to activate the gene. What do you think?
