Look at the upper left corner of the diagram and you can easily see that angiotensin II activates the AT1 receptor to produce more oxidants which switch on mTOR and switch off AMPK. That makes your arteries thicker, your heart bigger, and reduces the effect of your own insulin production. Losartan blocks that effect very precisely. Losartan reduced heart size more than a beta blocker although the blood pressure level achieved was the same. Don’t you think that is important?
