When I cut back on my sugar intake . . not just desserts, but bread, pasta, and rice - my weight decreased. I also find that exercising makes a difference - at least for me.

Losing weight is not easy for everyone. Women especially as they get older can eat the right foods, exercise, meditate and still the scale doesn’t move. This leads to a lot of anxiety and stress that have secondary health consequences. The SGL1s are game changers for diabetes and help many others to get the weight off so they can maintain it with the healthy habits already adopted. We can’t assume everyone who is overweight eats poorly.

I led a team that was focused on diabetes and patients with type 2 diabetes who were overweight almost universally loved carbs and sugar. In 1958, fewer than one percent of Americans had type 2 diabetes and most were slender. Now that number is approaching 10%. Diabetes and obesity have increase because of irresistible foods that combine fat, salt, sugar, and processed carbs.. I entirely agree that treating diabetes should be weight centric. We used metformin first (-6lb.) and GLP1/SGLT2 second along with carb/sugar restriction. A 51 year old woman on a scooter chair lost 150 lb just by changing her diet on metformin. A decade later she is still a size 8. Insulin, glyburide, and pioglitazone all cause weight gain. We avoided those and beta blockers for blood pressure to the extent possible.

in this post you talk about the benefits of metformin. On another post you talk about the benefits of the new Type II diabetes drug that costs $15K that they use for weight loss. I guess sugar and carbs are what degrades the body (and mind). Would a low-carb diet work just as well?

We become obese and diabetic because we eat fast and processed foods that are loaded with high fructose corn syrup, table sugar, carbs, and saturated fat. Avoiding those foods means you don't become obese and diabetic. Those foods make us fat and resistant to the effects of leptin, the hormone that controls appetite.

Yes, and sadly, many companies have spent a lot of money designing those food to become addictive. Who can eat three Doritos and stop? It's not easy ( I don't eat them at all).

Yes. You understand perfectly. They are targeting our children with juices and cereals loaded with sugar and corn syrup. They become addicted to these foods.
