Is there any evidence that the optimal medical therapy medications are helpful when the patient does not have type two diabetes or hypertension and has a normal CAC score and clean carotids at age 71? And thank you for all the great information that I look forward to regularly.

I believe the approach I am describing will apply ultimately to older people generally. That should be a national priority for research. Right now the evidence does not exist. There is a great deal of highly suggestive observational information. Type 2 diabetes usually means patients with that disease lose several years of life. This was a study of 180,000 patients in the real world.

Amazingly Informative, thank you. I’m inclined to bring this to my Cardiologist, but I’m afraid it’s too long and he won’t read it. I’ve been trying to get him to prescribe metformin OR GLP-1 drug, for my metabolic syndrome (I have all 5 risk factors) and insulin resistance. But due to my a1c of 5.1 he’s hesitant

This piece is only about thirty slides. It is about the equivalent of one talk your cardiologist heard at his last continuing medical education conference. This science has not been translated. It exists, but most American clinicians are not aware of it. You can make great progress with your metabolic syndrome by eating whole real food and cutting way back on sugar and carbs. (Mediterranean Diet) Take it to your cardiologist and primary care doctor. Spread the word. None of us will live our longest healthiest life in our current healthcare system

Thanks. Yes, I’m already eating Whole Foods for the most part, I’m on the Ornish program, but added back occasional fish and chicken.

I appreciate the response.

The information that comforted me the most was about pregnancy and just maybe I didn’t set my boy and girl up for a lifetime of ill health before even being born.

That is great to hear. Now you can help them understand how to keep the family healthy for generations to come

Fascinating! I appreciate the time it took to explain all of this in a way that is understandable to non-medical/researcher people along with the encouragement that it really can be understood by lay people. The football diagram was great. With my primary exposure to drug information coming from ads on TV with long lists of potential side effects, it is hard to know whether one is simply trading one set of concerns for another. This helps me understand the benefits of these previously mysterious drugs. So informative! Thank you.
