Most patients and healthcare professionals think of Type 2 diabetes as a sugar problem. And indeed, that is the way it is defined by the current medical model. If your fasting sugar is 126 or higher, you have diabetes. If it is under 126 you don’t. If you have diagnosis of diabetes and your fasting sugar falls below 126 consistently off medication for diabetes, you diabetes has been “reversed”. The selection of 126 as the cutoff is based on old data about diabetes complications.
Doctor, what is your opinion of that drug being given for insulin resistance. I have a friend who has a rather large abdomen and trunk area as she’s gotten older. (81). Her doc gave her this “new” med for “insulin resistance “ so she can lose weight. As far as I know there was no dietary information or lifestyle recommendations given to her. Side effects? No testing. Is this just the new weight loss thing now? Diabetes meds? Yet I couldn’t get an Rx for ivermectin. This med might be good use for this but I’m so suspicious of medicine now ....... I want to be prepared. I never express my opinions to her however.
Perhaps the most important thing for your friend is to cut back on sugar and carb intake. Metformin, empagliflozin, and medications like liraglutide all promote weight loss and lower insulin resistance.
I have never been able to convince anyone that doing that is better. They all are carb addicted. I study much of this health science on my own. Diet Doctor has wonderful sane program for diabetes and carb and sugar woes. I use many of the recipes. I’m not diabetic but I live quite well with the higher good protein (including meat) and moderate healthy fats. Exercise , outdoors often, and staying calm. But got off sugar years ago. I wrote you some time ago about my BP med being raised every time I got in a docs office. Had many tests, got rather frightened by a couple of docs. Couldn’t get an accurate reading at home.then I had hip replacement in September after an accident ending up with 2 BP Rx from 2 doctors. I was not going to allow that so the functional medicine doc who prescribed the original Losartan 25 mg kept me on the 50 mg from the surgical doc to take only in December and I took a series of readings. My anxiety was non existent so my readings went WAY DOWN. I trained myself to relax. Readings were Kind of low in fact so she dropped me to 25 mg for January as a trial. I am so relieved as she is ready to work with me on this. Wish insurance covered it though. I knew some of this was anxiety. Sorry, I just needed to talk about this. I judge a conventional doc by how quick they Rx statins. One I refused but by the time I got home Walgreens called. No discussion. I’ve had that particle test. It’s ok. I’m 74 and only wised up to some of this in my 60’s.. I don’t worry about my total cholesterol. Maybe I’ll get a calcium score someday. I’m 74. Happy New Year! Your articles are always interesting.

Thanks for your kind comment. Home blood pressure readings are more accurate for the reasons you described.
